    BAM's Tennis Program is meticulously aligned with SHAPE America’s National Standards for K-12 Physical Education. This program is designed to foster physical literacy by engaging students in tennis activities that promote the development of motor skills, physical fitness, and a lifelong love of the sport.

    Each lesson is structured to meet specific standards, ensuring students not only participate in tennis drills and matches but also understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

    Through active play and structured sessions, BAM's Tennis Program encourages students to demonstrate competence in tennis skills, apply knowledge of movement concepts, and exhibit responsible personal and social behavior, fully embracing SHAPE America's vision of empowering students to lead healthy, active lives.

  • Focus Areas

    Each week, students will delve into different aspects of tennis, starting with racket handling and ball control, practicing techniques like forehand and backhand strokes to improve precision and agility.

    Serving and teamwork will be key focuses, with drills such as short serves, long serves, and rallying to enhance accuracy and coordination. Volleying techniques, including drop shots, lobs, and smashes, will boost net play proficiency.

    Footwork and positioning skills will be developed through agility drills and strategic movement exercises. This rotating skill set approach ensures students gain a well-rounded understanding of tennis, promoting continuous improvement and a deeper love for the game.

Forehand Fundamentals: Mastering the Basics

In this lesson, students will focus on mastering ball control through dribbling drills such as close control dribbling and cone weaving. They will enhance their ability to maneuver the ball with precision and agility, essential for effective play.

Backhand Brilliance: Enhancing Your Game

Students will delve into the backhand stroke, practicing both one-handed and two-handed techniques to find their most comfortable style. This lesson emphasizes consistency and control, helping students build confidence in their backhand shots.

Serve and Rally: Building Accuracy and Power

In this session, students will concentrate on serving techniques, including short and long serves, to develop accuracy and power. Following serve practice, they’ll engage in rally drills to enhance their coordination and rhythm during continuous play.

Net Play Mastery: Volleys and Smashes

This lesson focuses on net play, teaching students essential volley and smash techniques to dominate close to the net. Through targeted drills, they’ll learn to execute drop shots, lobs, and aggressive smashes, improving their offensive skills.

Footwork and Strategy: Moving with Purpose

Students will work on their footwork and strategic movement, essential for effective court coverage and positioning. This lesson includes agility drills and exercises designed to enhance quick, precise movements, helping students stay competitive and reactive during matches.

BAM's Sports Programming is designed to align with SHAPE America's National Standards for K-12 Physical Education, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging approach to physical education. Each lesson follows a structured format that includes a Warm-up, Technical Drills, Reinforcing Game, and Scrimmages, providing a well-rounded experience that promotes skill development, fitness, and fun.

Warm-up: Each session begins with a dynamic warm-up to prepare students' bodies for physical activity, enhancing flexibility, and reducing the risk of injury.

Technical Drills: Students then move on to technical drills, focusing on the fundamental skills required for each sport. These drills are designed to improve motor skills, coordination, and technique, providing a solid foundation for game play.

Reinforcing Game: Following the drills, students participate in a reinforcing game that allows them to apply their newly acquired skills in a fun and supportive environment. This segment emphasizes teamwork, strategic thinking, and practical application of skills.
